' (By "Sir Lancelot.") The Napier Park Racing Club's Winter Meeting will be concluded to-mor-row. The principal event to be decided is the Park Steeplechase Handicap, of 300 soys, two miles and a half. Given fine -weather, it is 'expected that patrons of the light-harness sport will muster in strong force at the Hutt Valley trotting Club's Meeting to be held at the Petone Recreation Ground in aid of the Patriotic Funds., to-morrow. The entries received for the A.J.C. Breeders' Plate, to be run at the A.J.C. Spring Meeting, include several New Zealand-owned youngsters. Mr. E. J, Watt is the principal nominator. t Ho has engaged the brown colt Burradoo, by Bobadil— Duenna ; chestnut filly Silktress, by Tressady (imp.)— Silk Stocking (imp.) ; ba.y colt Maori Mat, by Maori King— Tatters ; chestnut colt by Varco — Cousin Mary ; brown colt Indian King, by Mountain King I—Bee1 — Bee Bee. The latter is nominated in the joint ownership of Mr. Watt and Mr. L. K. S. MacKinnon. Mr. G. D. Greenwood' has nominated two fillies — Ribble, by Danube — Lady Wayward II:. and Thames, by Danube — Armlet. Mr. G. L. Stead has engaged The Toff, by Bonif or m-^-Class. TCandicaps for the principal events at the V.Pm.C. National Meeting came to hand yesterday. The handicapper took no liberties with Sauci (10.11) in the Hnrdles. Hereford has been given 10.9 and Immensity 9.11. Merrimax (10.3), who appeared ' the best treated '''of the New Zealand division, has been scratched. Tim Doolan (10.11) is the ju'ck of the Steeplechase lot. He and Scots Guard (10.9) axe both likely starters. j Silver Ring is among the 9.0 lot. On the first occasion that Sylvia Park (who sired a Hawkes Bay Cup winner) did stnd duty at Hastings he got a good j hearing fiom breeders. His mates included Ngaio and Evening, the result being Parkey and Morning. ' who won the Winter Cup and Grand National Hurdles respectively as four-yessr-olds, and Morning, whose dam won, the Wangamii Steeplechase, was* handicapped in the Hawkes Bay Steeplechase, but did not accept. Morning was produced on Saturday in the June Steeplechase (worth 245 soys to the winner) and scored from The Diver and Naupata. Mr. Frank Armstrong, who bred and owns Morning, is a steward of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club. Sylvia Park, who raced after he took up stud duty and competed at meetings 'with some of his progeny, gained numerous prizes in the show ring. Mr. D. J. Goodwin, of Hawera, who raced the St. Leger horse and many of bis progeny, wears a. gold medal gained by Sylvia Park for the cliampionship at Hawera. ■ Sylvia Park can claim to be the best -all-round sire that has done service in the Dominion. He sired winners for cup races, »■ St. Leger winner, numerous hurdle -winners, also steeplechasers and irotters. Taiaru Jack who was shipped to Melbourne this week, is a, five-year-old gelding by Spalpeen— Soult mare. At the. Auckland Winter Meeting this month he ran second in the Orakei Hurdle Race to Harbour Light. Heather Mixture, who -was entered in the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club's ''correct " card as a four-year-old, was raoing in England in 1912 as a, two-year-old. At that- age he competed four times unsuccessfully, During the season 1913 he ran six times without gaining a place. This would make. Heather Mixture out to be fiv« years old according to English time.
