TURKS DISAPPOINTED IN THEIR BOMBARDMENT. CAIRO. 23rd June. Official.— -The Turks, between 7 and 8 o'clock on the evening of the 19th June, I expended 450 high explosive fchells oil our left and centre. They maesed for an attack, but their hearts failed, and the attack degenerated into fire action. The same evening one of our brigades attacked a . - Turkish trench, but was unsnecess' ful. The Turks counter-attacked, and effected a lodgment at an awkward salient of our line. The 40th Brigade was unable to recover the ground, and the sth Royal Scote and a company of "Worcesters came to their help. The attack was ably organised and brilliantly carried out. It was succetsful. Prisoners state that they expected their bombardment would have cleared us out, and were greatly disappointed that it made little impression, though the trenches wore much damaged. There were three dead Turks in front of one of our brigades. At a low estimate their total dead was one thousand.
