[PUBLISHED BY ARRANGEMENT.] WILSON'S STAR BRAND PORT LAND CEMENT.
Mr. WOODFIELD is the proud possessor of the largest and best equipped Stables in the town, for in addition to the above fine new fire-proof building, recently erected next the Fire Brigade Station in Cuba Street, Palmerston N., he has rebuilt the stables formerly in George Street, on a big section of land in Campbell Street, and these have been remodelled to provide excellent accommodation for the racing men of the Dominion. A great many loose-boxes are available, and generally speaking Woodfield's Stables are up-to-date in every particular. As will be noticed by the sign on the building at the top of this short sketch, Motor Cars are on hire at any hour, with careful drivers possessing a thorough knowledge of the whole district.
The above unique and serviceable contrivance for Calf Rearing is in everyday use on Mr. D. Buchanan's farm, "Eden Park," near Longburn. Many devices have been placed before the public for calf feeding but this seen in actual use by the writer convinced him that it is the quickest, least troublesome, and most effective way of feeding a number of calves. In course of conversation with Mr. Buchanan it was gleaned that he had used it for some time past, and one great advantage of it was that the calves suck at the teats and create saliva, as they would in* a state of nature, and consequently the animals do not suffer from indigestion as they do when fed from the trough or bucket, and after finishing they go and lie down and do not indulge in the practice of sucking one another as is customary when their food is gulped down. There are no troublesome drinkers, and calves a single hour old take to it without the slightest difficulty. It is understood Messrs. Manson and Barr, Ltd., of Palmerston North, are going to stock this Calf Feeder, and it may probably be on exhibit at the Show to-day.
