DODGING THE POLL TAX
THREE CHINESE FINED. (Received June 23, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Three of the Chinese charged with assisting in the smuggling in of their countrymen have been fined £100 each, in default nine months' imprisonment. [Four Chinese were remanded on a charge of assisting in the smuggling in of their countrymen. The prosecution alleged that the Federal authorities were on the track of a big system, but had not concluded the necessary enquiries.]
