HUGH ROBERTS.

Woolbroker, Feilding. From Salcyards to Woolpack. It is just six years since Mr. Hugh Roberts commenced operations in Feilding as a woolbroker and agent, and the wonderful progress made by his business during that short time is very noticeable. The value of wool, skins, and hides sold by him at his premises for the first year totalled £13,000, and for the past year the amount reached £30,000. Wool, skin, and hide sales are held every month, and buyers are always present from the most distant parts. The Main Trunk line contributes in no small measure to the success of Mr. Roberts's businesses. Frequently farmers attend the sales in Feilding for the purpose of making large purchases of sheep for new country in the Waikato and on the M&in Trunk line, and before taking their sheep away from Feilding have them shorn at Mr. Roberts's establishment, where a very up-to-date shearing shed,' with fcur "Wolseley" shearing machines, is installed, and expert operators are constantly employed on the staff. • During the last shearing season upwards of 40,000 sheep were shorn at Mr. Roberts's establishment. One particular advantage in this is the fact that the wool can be properly classed and baled on the premises, and sold locally or prepared for shipment to the Home markets just as is -desired by the vendors. It is interesting to note that all this takes place withm a stone's throw of the Feilding Post Office and adjacent to the associated auctioneers' saleyards.
