SHANNON MEAT COMPANY.
' _ In selecting for the purposes of this issue, the salient features of the leading commercial institutions of Shannon, distinction must be accorded to the large business of the Shannon Meat Company which is so ably conducted by Mr. S. W. Carter and his staff. Established some twenty years ago, it has developed correspondingly with the progress of the district, and each -year sees further improvements effected, and to-day there is .perhaps no business in any part of the island run on more up-to-date lines than this one. Most of the meat ' killed is reared or fattened, as the case might be, on the several fine farms adjacent to the township, run in conjunction with the butchery, and slaughtered under Government inspection at the firm's slaughter, yards, which, for cleanliness and sanitary arrangements, could not be beat. A branch of the company's business has been established at Tokomaru, and the delivery carts invade the remotest part of the district regularly, consequently the residents of Shannon , can claim to have a really good butchery service, and the best quality meat only, which is sold in many cases well belovy Palmerston prices and those obtained in the principal centres. Mr. S. AY. Carter, the manager, is a son of one of the earliest residents of Foxton, and was born at Moutoa. His time is fully employed in supervising the business, and directing operations on the several farms, and attending the sales in various parts. Mr. Gaiter is one of the leading business men of the Shannon district, tvad vgvUiuly la fin§ pi ths-.m£6fcj2ojutei
