AUSTRIAN DEVICES
BRIBERY AND DUMMIES. QUEER OFFEeTtO ITALIAN - SOLDIERS. (TtMBS AND SIDNEY SUN KRYICII.) ROME, 21st June. Official. — The Austrians delivered a, manifesto to the Italian soldiers by means of balloons, promising them ten crowns for every rifle, five hundred for every machine gun, and two thousand for every cannon or aeroplane, surrendered to them. When the Italians crossed the Isonzo to _ attack Tolmino, the Bersaglieri were just over the river when an Austrian shell destroyed the bridge. The Bersagliere were confronted with an apparently impregnable first line of trenches. They had decided to assail them and to sell their lives as dearly as possible, when the Alpini signalled from a mountain cest that' the Austrian trenches were only imitations, lined with puppets dressed at Austrians and armed with wooden guns.
