FIGHT FOR LEMBERG
AUSTRIANS CLAIM COMPLETE VICTORY FIERCE FIGHT NEAR ARRAS MR. BRYAN'S PEACE PLANS BRITAIN'S FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The critical situation in Galicia occupies the chief place in the war 'news to-day. Enemy reports claim the capture of the Bussian positions at Grodek, covering Lemberg. On ;the west the Austrians claim a complete victory. The Rus-. sian news on the stibject is scanty. The news from France includes a stirring description of the attack on the Pond de Buval, which was extremely strong, and which was definitely captured from the enemy. Mr. W. J. Bryan, late Secretary of State in the United States, has put forward proposals for the establishment of peace and of an international tribunal for the future settle- ' ment of disputes.
