NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. EXCELLENT PRICES FOR PRODUCE. (BT TBLEORAPH SPECIAL TO THE POST.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. In moving the adoption of the National Dairy Association's report, Mr. A. Morton, the president, referred to the excellent price received for dairymen produce, and said their gratitude liad been expressed in large gifts to the patriotic funds. At the same time he viewed with apprehension the future of the industry, especially of cheese, on account of the absorption of a large quantity of skilled workers by enlistment. Seeing that such a vast quantity of cheese was being consumed a(. the front, it was essential that cheese should be regarded as munitions of war. He therefore hoped that the drain on skilled labour for enlistment would not have a restrictive effect on the cheese output, otherwise they might have to ask the authorities to take steps to conserve the labour supply in New Zealand for cheese-making. With regord to shipping freights, the contract with the companies for the carriage of dairy produce had now been suspended. When the rate for the carriage of cheese was advanced from a halfpenny to three-far-things a pound, the executive of the association had protested, but the shipping companies in Wellington had pointed out that they were in the hands of the Freights Committee in London, acting for the Board of Trade. Tho report was adopted and the directors were re- elected.
