CARNIVAL NOTES
A special meeting of all Dr. PlattsMills's committees and sub-committees, also all sellers of No. 10 art union tickets, will be held at the V.M.C.A. Rooms on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. By an advertisement in this issue, those holding motor-car and section books and remittances for tickets in connection with the Hutt campaign are requested to forward them to the secretary (Mr. W. J. Gardner), not later than noon on Thursday. It is intended to draw the art unions on Friday night. At the Maori concert to-night the Hon. Dr. Pomare will deliver an address. The bayonet fighting team from Trentham Camp will leave for Masterton by the 8.15 a,m. train from Trentham tomorrow. An art union of a chesterfield lounge, lounge chair, and framed pastel painting has been promoted to further the interests of Mrs. M'Vicar. It is notified in our advertising columns that the prizes are on view at Mrs. A. R. Barnes's, 74, Vivian-street. The West Coasters' Association notifies that all raffles and art unions will be drawn on Monday evening next. Yesterday the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) met the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken (president of the Patriotic Society) and Mr. H. Q. Hill (chairman) to discuss the proposals put forward by the Patriotic Society for a financial conference. Sir John Findlay, K.C., and Mr. . C. P. Skerrett, K.C., were also present. The Mayor will call a conference of mayors, chairmen of local bodies, and chairmen of patriotic committees in the Wellington province to be held in Wellington at the Town Hall on Friday, 2nd July. This conference will deal with the establishment of a provincial fund and the appointment of trustees. On Thursday evening at 8 o'clock a euchre party and social will take place in St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown, arranged by the Tramway Committee. The proceeds will be in aid of their Queen Candidate Fund. Complete arrangements are being made for a Flower Day next Saturday, also in aid of Dr PlattsMills's candidature. All friends who can spare flowers, holly or ferns, are asked to send them to the Central Committee rooms, opposite the General Post Office, on Friday afternoon. A correspondent, "Lottery," has sugfested that 'the Combined Drapers, in rawing the raffle for the villa at Kelbum, should approach the "Tattersail's" authorities to conduct the drawing, on the marble system. On making enquiries, it was learnt by a reporter th-M the conduct of the raffle had already been handed over by the Drapers' Committee to the special Ballot Committee set up for such purposes by the Carnival Executive. The raffle would be drawn under the system adopted by this committee, and previously described.
