STEEPLECHASE WON BY SOPORIFIC. (IT TEI,EQRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HASTINGS, 18th June. The totalisator takings on the first day of the Hawkes Bay J.C. Meeting totalled £13,971, as against £14.165 on the first day of the corresponding meeting last year. Balance of results :—: — Hawkes Bay Steeplechase, of 500 bovb. Three miles. 1 Mr. J. H. Time, 6min 38sec. Whakatu Hack Hurdle Race, of 100 soys ; one mile and three-quarters. — 3 Doon 9.8, 1; 2 Hurakia, 10 5, 2; 6 Brunswick, 9.5, 3. Also started : 1 Ruatangata 10.7, Epworth 9.9, 8 Merry Jack 9.4, 9 Eternity 9.2. Kfa Toa 9.2, 4 Vascular 9.0. 5 Ormoloid 9.0, 11 Pipe Clay 9.0, 10 Cyra 9.0. A good race along the straight resulted in Doon winning by a neck. Time, 3min 17sec. Hunt Cup Steeplechase, one mile and a-half.— *3 Bandalero 11.1; 4 Kirkby, 10.9, 2; 1 Master Webb. 11.12, 3. Also started : 5 Colonel 'WeMu 10.7, 6 Defeat 10.7, 7 Kura -10.7. 2 Clinker 10.7. Won by a length and a-half, the reste of the field being furlongs away. Heretaunga Handicap, of 150 soys; six furlongs and a-half 3 Ardent, 9.7, 1; 7 Hymettius, 9.12, 2; 4 Beldame, 10.7. 3. From an excellent start Hymettius shot out, with Beldame second, and Black Heart third. After a good race in the straight Ardent shot out and beat Hymettins by half a length. Time, lmin 25sec.
