LONDON. 17th June. Austrian official : Tho Italians have been everywhere repulsed. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MESSAGE. LONDON, 17th June, 11.15 a.m. Italian encounters with the enemy were successful along the whole front. Particular importance is attributed to the action in the Monte Nero zone by the Alpine troops, to whom was entrusted the task of dislodging the enemy from ambushes on the mountain side. The operation began during the night with the difficult climbing of the rocks, and ended at daybreak with an impetuous attack, which was crowned with complete success. Up to the present 350 prisoners, including 14 officers, have been captured. BATTLE AT SESIS PASS. LONDON, 17th June. Mr. Martin Donohoe, reporting from Rome, states that the Austrians attacked the Italian positions at the Sesis Pass at dawn and advanced in massed formation. Few lived to reach the Italian trenches.' The Austrian artillery was unable to co-operate owing to the unfavourable nature of the ground. Fearing to decimate their own ranks, their infantry reserved their fire, trusting to the bayonet, but the Italian fire swept the open ground, and the Austriane fell in heaps. The first and second attacks withered away, and the third also failed.
