HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman); Dr. Platts-Mills, Mesdames D. M'Laren, T. M. Wilford, and A. M'Vicar, Revs. Dr. J. K. Elliott and H. Van Staveren, and Messrs. F. Castle, D. Campbell, H. Freeman, W. Galloway, F T. Moore, C. M. Luke, G. Nash, J. Smith, W. J. Thompson, and D. Robertson. It was decided that a radiating service be installed without delay at the Nurses' Home for heating the dining-room, nurses' sitting-room, sisters' sittingroom, and sub-matron's sitting-room, at an estimated cost of £146 lls lid. The tuberculosis medical officer (Dr. Basil Adams) submitted a report of his work daring May, giving particulars of visits paid to the Otaki Sanatorium, the care of patients at the Seddon Annexe, and arrangements made for co-operation with the Public Health Department and local medical men. Up to the time of reporting he had examined 93 patients (35 in April and 58 in May), of whom he found 63 to be suffering from tuberculosis. The architect (Mr. F. de J. Olere) was instructed to invite tenders for the proposed garage and additions to tho hospital stores and the ward for sick nurses. The sum of £951 (trust funds) on deposit with the Lower Hutt Borough Council is to be redeposited for a further period of one year at 5 per cent, interest. The Public Health Committee reported that during the four weeks ended 9th June the health inspectors had investigated 55 cases of infectious diseases, as under: Scarlet lever 20, diphtheria 16, tuberculosis 9, enteric fever 2, chickenpox 7, blood-poisoning 1. Eighty-five disinfections had been carried out in connection with the above. Seventy samples of milk had been taken and 17 gallons of milk destroyed ; six carcases of pork had been condemned and destroyed.
