NATIONAL FUND

STEADILY GROWING Since the memorable demonstration in the Town Hall under the auspices of the New Zealand Patriotic Society, the fund in aid of the sick and wounded New Zealand soldiers and their dependent* has been steadily growing. The list opened at the meeting was headed by Messrs. John and Louis Blundell with £1000. conditionally on ten other sums of £500 each being received, and at the same time were received two cheques of £500 each from Mr. Martin Kennedy and Mr. G. Shirteliffe. Since that date, four other amounts of £1000 each have been offered by the following : Bank of New, Zealand. Messre. Levin and Co., Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co., and Messre. Dalgety and Co. Cheques for £500 each have also bqen sent in by Messrs. Staples and Co., Mr. D. H. S. Riddiford, Mr Eric Bid di ford, Mr. Sydney Johnston, and the Gear Company. In addition, of course, many sums of les6er amount have been paid in. The Mayor would be pleased if all persons making donations, of whatever amount, would state whether they desire the amount to go to the Carnival Fund or to count in the purchase of tickets for any candidate.
