TURKEY AND PEACE
MINISTER LEAVES FOR BERLI HISTORICAL LANDING ON GALLIPOLI RUSSIAN LINE DECLARED TO BE BROKEN
In connection with the Turkish campaign, an important message comes from Athens, stating that the Turkish Minister of Finance has gone to Berlin to announce that Turkey will conclude a separate peace. Further details of the landing on . Gallipoli show that it was a magnificent feat of arms. From the other theatres there is not much of importance to be recorded, except on the Russian side, where a stubborn battle is being fought on the San. The Germans have suffered enormous losses, and according to a message from Petrograd \vere nowhere successfiil. A Vienna official message, however, claims that the Russian line near Stryj has been broken, and that the Russians are in retreat. ■ German' submarines are again active, and .-further .victories to them are notified, including the Shire liner Argyllshire, 10,392 tons. The explosion on the mine-layer Princess Irene in * Sheerness harbour was attended with heavy loss of life.
