NATIONAL RESERVE
♦ MIRAMAR UNIT. The Miramar unit of the Reserve is now placed on a proper basis. Messrs. Rowntree and Forne have been elected lioutenants, with a strong and able staff of n.c.o.'s. It has beer formed into platoons, and is combined for company purposes with Lyall Bay and South Kil- I birnie, under «a captain who has yet to be elected Major F Townsend is in command. This week's parade, 60 strong, was under Major Townsend. A route march was held through Miramar and Seatoun, and Major Hawthorne acted as instructor and put the unit through a number of manoeuvres en route. Several Mauser rifles have been obtained for the use of the unit, and will be served ont at the parade on Wednesday next. As a branch of the Reserve, a Miniature Rifle Club has been formed, the officers and n.c.o.'s forming the committee, with power to add to their number. Easson'a building at Miramar has been placed at the committee's disposal and a range is being fitted up. Messrs. H. Smith have generously offered to do the lighting, and the other work is being carried out under the shooting secretary, Mr. A. E. M. Rowland.
