PERSONAL MATTERS
Mr. J. Craigie, M.P. for Timaru, was a passenger by the Wahine from the South to-day. Mr. C. P. Powles, of Wellington, has been licensed as a public auditor under the Friendly Societies Act. .Messrs. R. A. M'Kenzie, C. Foote, and J. Johnson, of Waikanae, are gazetted officers under the Fisheries Act. Mr. T. B. Dwan has been appointed assessor for the City Council at the hearing of objections to the city assessments. His Grace Coadjutor-Archbishop O'Shea is visiting the WanganUi district. He is due back in Wellington to-morrow evening. Messrs. A. R. Bacon, F. W. Fisk, and 0. Jones, of Wellington, have been appointed officers under the Immigration Restriction Act. The Rev. A. E. Hunt has received a cablegram stating that his son, Pte. A. J. Hunt_, reported wounded, is progressing favourably. Councillor Barber has been appointed the City Council's delegate at the conference to he held in Taumarunui on 17th July in connection with the proposal to form a nationall central highway from Auckland to Wellington. Lieut. H. M. Inglis, who was killed at Neuve Chapelle, was for some tim& Dunedin traveller for Messrs. A. and T. Bttrt. At the outbreak of the war, he joined the Scottish Horse, but subsequently applied for and received a commiesion in the Gordon Highlanders, being appointed second-lieutenant. When the council met last night the Mayor referred to the death of an excouncillor, Mr. James Trevor. Mr. Trevor was a member of the City Council for six years, besides being a member of the Hospital Board and Harbour Board. His work for the city had been indeed valuable. Members of the council expressed their sympathy with Mrs. Trevor and other members of the detfeased gentleman's family.
