TOTALISATOR PERMITS

NEW LICENSES ALLOCATED The Commission (consisting of Messrs. G. Hunter, M.P., and T. H. Davey) to report on the allocations of the 39 additional permits to be granted under an Act passed last session has presented ite report to the Minister oi Internal Affairs (Hon. H. D. Bell). Westport R.C., Westport. Karamea R.C., Karamea. Clifden H.R.C., Clifden. Cheviot R.C., Cheviot. North Canterbury and Oxford J.C., ; Rangiora. Methven R.C., Methven. TROTTING CLUBS. North Island. Poverty Bay ,T.C, Gisborno R.C. course Waikato T.C., South Auckland R.C. course. Waimate Plains T.C., Egmont R.C. course. Manawatu T.C., Manawatu R.C. course. South Island. The Commission further recommended that all clubs erecting fencing on the inside of racing or tracks, and all clubs at any time renewing their present fencing, should be required, to adopt "the pattern set forth in Schedule 10 of the Gaming Commission's Report of 1910, unless special reasons can be shown to the contrary. They further strongly urged that no licenses be issued to use the totalisator until reasonable progress has been made "with the improvements suggested in the second schedule of the report, dealing with repairs to club properties. Waimate District, Waimate R.C. course. a Otago, Otago J.C. course. Birchwood, Otautau. Eighteen applications were received from hunt clubs, twelve from the North Island and six from the South Island. As the merits of the great majority of the clubs were so equal, the Commission deemed it advisable to recommend that contiguous alternate licenses shonld bo granted to the sixteen clubs named, that is to say, Pakuranga H.C. to be granted the license the first year, and Waikato 11. C. tho following season, and so on in rotation. This will give hunters an opportunity of competing annually within a reasonable distance of their headquarters, and equally assist the financial position of each club. Applications were also received from the Waikanae H.C. and the Wairarapa H.C, neither of which was registered with the New Zealand' Hunt Association. LICENSES TO BE ISSUED. The Hon. H. D Bell states that ho lias considered, along with the above report, suggestions received from the New Zealand Racing Conference, the Country Racing Club's Association, and the New Zealand Trotting Conference, and has decided to issue the licenses in accordance with the report of Messrs. Hunter and Davey.
