STRICKEN SERVIA
HUNGER AND DISEASE. " TO THB EDITOR. Sir — Having seen an appeal in last night's Evening Post on behalf of the Servians, I am enclosing a one-pound note, trusting you will be able to place it in the hands of those responsible for some fund to aid the Servians. Should there be no such fund, either here or in Australia, please give it to the Belgian Relief Fund. — I am, etc., E.D. Wellington, Ist May. [The correspondent's reference to an appeal is evidently based on the following cable message : — "Washington, 29th April.— Tho Rockefeller Commission, reporting on the conditions in Servia, asserts that there are 30,000 cases of typhoid, and the whole nation is rapidly becoming involved. There are 300,000 people destitute, and the conditions are wholly beyond the Government's control, and are a menace to the health of the entire globe. The country is practically exhausted. Sixty thousand Austrian prisoners are quartered at the various centres." No special fund has been opened locally for either the Servians or the people of Russian Poland, whose country has been largely laid waste by German hordes. The Post will act in accordance with contributors' wishes.] ALLEGED MISREPRESENTATION TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Your correspondent "H.G-." mis- ! represents mo entirely. I did not state that the Resurrection of Jesus did not occur. I stated, as I thought clearly, that the Resurrection wae not scientifically & proven fact. — I am, etc., A. D. THOMPSON. [Mr. Thompson's letter has been condensed, as the full text would provoke endless controversy. This correspondence is now closed.] '
