FIVE THOUSAND TURKS WOUNDED
ATHENS, 3rd May. Reliable advices from Constantinople state that five thousand Turkish wounded arrived from the Dardanelles. TURKISH VERSION OF FIRST BATTLE (TIMES AND STDNET SUN SKRTICKS.) LONDON, 3rd May. Constantinople official reports state that during the first battle of Kum Kale the Turks did not fire a single shot. They repulsed the enemy ,simply with the bayonet. Turkish batteries damaged the French cruiser Jeanne d'Arc. which retired ablaze. They sank an English destroyer, and damaged the warships Majestic. Triumph, »nd Vengeance. Sixteen armoured warships and many destroyers fired thirty thousand shells, but only a few soldiers were slightly injured. The Turkish shells hit two transports. One ran asore. They sank several sailing-boats filled with troops, which were destroyed.
