CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
The seventy-second anniversary of the Terrace Congregational Church was celebrated by special services on Sunday, and the observances will be continued tomorrow evening in a tea and public meeting. Dr. J. Kennedy Elliott preached yesterday morning, and in the evening the service was conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J. Reed Glasson. Communion followed the evening service. The annual report of the deacons shows that the number of members on the roll is 147, a decrease of three for the year. The personnel of the deaconate is unchanged, Messrs. W. D. Dumbell and J. Ilott, the retiring members,, having been reelected at the annual church meeting, pwing to the removal of many families into the suburbs, the average attendance ai, the Stmday school (scholars 54, teachers and officers 15) fell off slightly The organisations connected with the church continue to do good work, and their activities haye been well maintained. The amount raised for the London Missionary Society .totalled £183 13s 4d. The finances of the church are considered to be satisfactory, all accounts being in credit. Though the weekly offertories show a falling-off and the expenditure for maintenance of public worship has exceeded the income, the contributions for outside objects are considered very gratifying, in view of the many appeals made. The deacons add that, while as a church and individually there is much to be thankful for, the war has cast a shadow over everything, and it behoves one and all tc/do their utmost to alleviate the suffering and distress now existing, and to pray that the terrible war may soon be brought to an honourable and just conclusion, and that lasting peace may ensue.
