BRITISH ADMIRALTY STATEMENT.
LONDON, 21st March. The British Admiralty announces that since the beginning of the war fifty-four British merchant vessels have been sunk or captured by enemy cruisers. Twelve were destroyed by mines and thirty by submarines. The total tonnage was 332,770 tons. Arrivals and sailings at United Kingdom ports of ' steamers of all nationalities, exceeding three hundred tons, numbered 42,264, whereof 143 .were lost. The High Commissioner reports: — LONDON, 20th March, 11.20 a.m. The Admiralty's weekly list' of ships gurtk by submarines shows a total of eight. The sailings totalled 1539. The, newly-announced ships torpedoed are:— The Hyndfofd, not sunk} Leeuwarden, sunk; neutral vessel sunk, the Hanna.
