MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS. The City Council held its fortnightly meeting last evening. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and the council was represented by Councillors R. Fletcher, J. E. Fitzgerald, A. H. Hindmareh, R. A. Wright, M. Luckie, E. Tregear, J. Fuller, L. M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, A. R. Atkinson, J. Godber, G. Frost, 'W: H. P. Barber. The City Solicitor was instructed to, give effect to the draft agreement between the College Governors' and the Corporation relating to street-widening matters at Mercer-street. An application from a trading concern to sell its wares on the city streets, conditionally upon a portion of the proceeds being devoted to the Belgian Relief Fund, \va* refused. • An application for a subsidy to the .Richmond Free Kindergarten will be considered when the general estimates for next year are being framed. It was decided that application should be made to the Governor for the unconditional exemption of Marquis-street, Wadestown. • A request for the removal of the horse trough in Poet Office-square was refused, but with a view of relieving the congestion at this particular spot it was decided that additional troughs should be provided at Hunter-street (north end of Victoria-street) and Waterloo-quay (near the intersection of , Whitmorestreet). Steps are to be taken to acquire the necessary land to give access to the Wallace-street tram terminus from ' Wright-street. The owners of Aorangi-terrace are to be called upon to carry out the necessary repairs to the terrace and plantation in accordance with the original agreement. Messrs. Seaton, Sladden, and Pavitt are to be informed that the council can not agree to their proposed subdivision of land at Hawkestonq-crescent, as in , the caee of destruction by fire or otherwise the re-erection of the buildings would not be in accordance with the bylaws. Three lamps, one each in Picton, Somerset, and Waterloo avenues, are to be erected at an estimated cost of £18 17s. The Post and Telegraph Department , will receive notice that the council will not be responsible for the payment of long^ distance communications from all public vehicle stand telephones. The City Solicitor was instructed to prepare a bylaw amending the present bylaw providing that where houses are situated more than ten feet distant from the sjtreet boundary, the number or numbers shall be placed on the gate or fence. The Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association is to be advised in connection with its application for the erection of a lamp at the right-of-way between Reu-ben-avenue and Mitc'lieJl-stireeit, that the way is privately -owned, and the cost of^ erection and maintenance of the lamp will require to be paid by the owners. • The Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association is to be' informed that its application for the construction of a footpath from Duppa-street to Dee-street cannot be agreed to at present, but pro- . vision will be made on next year's esti-' mates to have the work carried out. Instructions have been given to the City Engineer to have an encroaching fence at Adelaide-road set back immediately. Petitioners for improvements to a .drainage , right-of-way at Waitoa-road, Hataitai, are to be advised that the council will do the work if the property-own- , ers using such way contribute half the cost of the Same. The Roseneath Electors' Association will be informed that the work of widening out the roadway from Point Jerningham and Little Karaka Bay has already been authorised, and that the City Engineer will carry out the work as soon as possible. The council has agreed to waive its right to insist upon the Mornington Estate Company providing a quarry site at Mornington, provided the company vests in the corporation certain pieces of land required for public purposes, as shown on the plan to be laid on the table, such transfer to be to the City Solicitor's satisfaction. In accordance with the recommenda- , tion of the Public Health Department, a condemnation notice will be served on the owner of premises, No. 16, Francisplace. During February the following stock were slaughtered ab the municipal abattoir:—33o cows, 417 bullocks, 77 bulls, 4396 sheep, 1024 lambs, 397 calves, and 6 pigs. The numbers condemned were : , —29 cows, 15 bullocks, 2 bulls, 19 sheep.
