IN MELBOURNE AND ADELAIDE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received March 9, 10.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. At the wool sales American competition for best merinos was keen. Extreme rates were realised. ADELAIDE. This Day. tAt the wool sales bidding was excitingly animated. Merinos advanced by 15 to 25 per cent. The top price was 15gd. (Received March 9, 2.30 p.m.) , , LONDON, Bth Marclj. The wool available for tho third series of sales is 130,000 bales. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd.. have received the following cablegram from their London Office under date of the sth instant :—" Wool sales closed very firm. As compared with last Bales closing rates greasy merinos were 10 to 15 per cent, higher except short and wasty, which were 5 per cent, dearer. Scoured merinos were 15 to 20 per cent, higher except short and faulty, which showed a rise of 10 per cent. Bulky scoured stained pieces and locks were 25 per cent, higher. Greasy fine crossbred advanced 5 to 10 per cent., medium and coarse 10 per cent., and scoured orossbreds 5 per cent. Slipes were par to 5 per cent, higher. The total net quantity af colonial wool available amounted to 93,000 bales. Sales to thb Home trade amounted to 60,500 bales ; to the Continent, 5000 bales ; to America, 16,000 bales; quantity not offered, 10,700 bales ; quantity withdrawn from sale, 800 bales."
