The correspondent of The Tunes with the Russians is a profound believer in Pronibition. He saye he never imagined how far-reaching could be its benefits. The prohibition of vodka has increased efficiency. . The first evidence of ihie was in the promptness with which army mobilisation was carried out during a period when money was tight. The deposits in the Savings Banks have enormously increased It is impossible to buy even a glass of beer at any hotel or restaurant. "I have not," adds the correspondent, "seen in six months a tipey officer or soldier. At one stroke Russia has freed herself from a curse which had paralysed her peasant life for generations. This ie nothing short of a revolution. Graft and corruption have been stamped out, and the army service shows an improvement in organisation and added comfort in the soldier's life, ire* suiting in the highest morale.
