' ' At Flemington this afternoon, the ' Victoria Racing Club's Autumn^ Meet- \ ing was concluded. The day was hot t and dusty, but the attendance was the best for the meeting. Nothing t distinguished the racing, except the , consistent form shown by El Progresso, t and the downfall of the two hotly-fav- . oured candidates (Land of Song and Di Gama) for the Champion Stakes. The » friends of Di Gama were very confident "r" r of his beating Land of Song. When i the others were beaten off, and the real 3 race commenced, a struggle between the r two was looked for. When Carlita, x going strongly, rounded the turn, Di 3 Grama, was still fighting behind Land of i Song, but it was seen that neither could r catch the filly, who was ridden in amid r rousing cheers. , Details of the racing are as follow :—: — 3 Elms Handicap, a sweepstake of 3 ) soys each, with 300 soys added';' for three- ) year-olds; sevea' furlongs. — Achernar, - 7.11, 1; Miss Meadows, 7.9, 2; Sanctity, r 7.9, 3. After the first mile, she .was two s and a-half lengths in front of Hayston, Abbey Craig/ Mountain Oak, Bon Ton, Di Gama, and Land of Song.' A mile > from home Bon Ton was third, followed [by Land Song and'Di Gfima, ,with 1 the others beaten Off. Land of Song ' ran into second place rounding the turn, [ and was followed by Hayston and Di ' Gama. The last-named then moved up, I and he and Land -of Song were ridden J hard, but they failed to catch Carlita., ' who won by a length and a half. Three > lengths separated second and third.
