ORDER OF THE STAR OF THE EAST

At the last meeting of the Order of the Star of the East, an interesting lecture was delivered by Mr. Edmanson, F.8.E.A., the president and founder of the Wellington Esperanto Society, on the subject of Esperanto and its close relationship to the objects of the Order — namely, a world-wide social influence for peace and good will amongst all people. He claimed that if the people of th© world could speak to each other and be nnderstood, there would be less danger of differences, and a surer feeling of fraternity and common interest than unfortunately exists to-day. Esperanto, like the Order, did not intrude itself upon any existing language, politics, religion, or sect, but aimed at being merely an auxiliary duplicate instrument of communication for all. Millions had acquired a practical use of it, and had. been surprised at the facility with which it could be learned and used. Several members, led by Miss Christie, who presided at the meeting, have made arrangements to commence the study of Esperanto forthwith, Mr. Edmnnison offering lv's assistance freely. On the motion of Miss Christie a vote of thanks was passed to the lecturer.
