HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED , REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from tho Higb Commissioner for Now Zealand, da-ted London, 6th February. (Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average, market prices on spot) : — Mutton — The market is fitm, with an improved demand, especially for lightvyeights. Canterbury, per lb, sfd ; heavy weights, sid ; North Island, s^d. Lamb — A good demand continues, and pricos are firmer on account of the difficulty in obtaining supplies. Owing to delay in discharging, Canterbury supplies arc nearly exhausted. Quotations are nominal. Canterbury, uer lb, 63d ; other than Canterbury, 7Ad. Beef— The market is very firm. Stocks of New Zealand on hand are light Hinds, per lb, 6id; fores, 5 13-16 d. Of chilled thero is only a small supply. Hinds, per lb, 7id; fores, 6^cl. Butter. — The market is quieter and prices easier. Danish, slow, per cwt., 142s to 1465; New Zealand, 138s to 140s; unsaltcd, occasionally 1425; Australian, 134s to 138s ; Siberian, no arrivals ; Argentine, quiet, 134s to 1365,. Cheese. — The market is firm, and prices continue tc advance. It is 6tated that supplies do not mee-'' requirements on account of the abnormal demand. The market is advancing steadily Canadian, firm, white and coloured, per cwt., 88s to 90s; New Zealand, market firm, with good demand, white and coloured, 86s to 886. The ostimatod Canadian cheese stocks at London, Liverpool, and Bristol on tho 2nd February -were 81,000 boxes, as against 123,000 at the same time last year. New Zealand and Australian cheese stocks at London and Bristol en tho 2nd February" were 22,700 crates, as against 12,700 at tho same time last year Hemp. — Tho market is active, with a good demand. Stocks of New Zealand are small. New Zealand good fair, pc» ton, £28 10s j fair, £26 10s; fair current Manila, £30. Forward shipments: New Zealand good, fair, £28; fair, dG26 ; fair current Manila, £30 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 18,000 bales. Wheat — The market is firm, and prices continue to advance. Quotations are nominal. Canadian, per quarter, 645; American, 635 ; Argentine, 635. Oats — The market is firm, but tho demand is only moderate. New Zealand Gnrtons, per quarter, 345; Argentine, 31s. Wool — The sales closed with very strong market, prices obtnined being the best for tho series. The supply falls short of tho demand Americans are operating freely hi merinos, and France and Italy aro again buying. Nothing* was held over. Estimated values are : Fine crc*sbreds, all grades. Is 3d to Is 5d per lb, medium crossbreds, all grade*, Is 2d to lb 4d ; coarse crossbreds, all grades, Is Id to Is 3d ; superior merino, Is to Is 2d ; medium, lOd to Is ; inferior, 8d to' lOd.
