(BT TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION) DUNEDIN, Bth February. At the Supreme Court to-day. David Murray Dickson was arraigned on three charges of forgery and one charge of false pretences. Accused at first pleaded not guilty, but after hearing J the evidence withdrew that plea, and Jlr. Brasch made an appeal for leniency. Mr. Justice Denniston said he would give the prisoner another chance, as he did not wish to make a criminal of him, and he had already suffered two months' imprisonment. He placed the prisoner under probation for twelve months, and ordered him to pay costs (£5) of the prosecution. His Honour declined to order restitution to the publicans, as he did not consider they should be encouraged to cash cheques. CHRISTCIIURCII, This Day. At the Supreme Court, William John Lawrence, aged 62 years, for indecent assault on a girl aged four, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Frederick Thomas Bonham was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for indecent assault. At the Supreme Court, before his Honour Mr. Justice Sim, the trial of Colin Aloxander°M'Kinnon, on three charges of theft, involving participation in Customs frauds, was commenced. At _fche last sessions M'Kinnon was tried on similar charges ,and found not guilty. Opening for the Crown, Mr. Wright said accused's accomplices would give evidence. AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Supreme Court, John Joseph Lowry, for conspiracy and obtaining £120 by fraud from a Te Kuiti youth, Alfred Caterer, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. WANGANUI, This Day. The Supreme Court opened to-day, Mr. Justice Chapman presiding. His Honour commented upon the smallness of the criminal calendar. Interest centres 'in the Rottman murder case. Iliro Wipo was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for indecent assault at Waitotara. Andrew Crane Birss, on a charge of breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime, was acquitted..
