IN DUKLA PASS
AUSTRIANS CLAIM A SUCCESS RUSSIANS ADMIT FALLING BACK (Received February 9, noon.) AMSTERDAM, Bth February. An Austrian communique states : ' The battle for Dukla Pass ended in our favour The Russian artillery was weak, but their infantry was strong, and assailed the heights. Three lines were mowed down, and finally the Russians lay the night long in a snowstorm. Benumbed by the cold, they attempted in the morning to storm our positions, but broke down and fipd. We are pursuing them. PETROGRAD, Bth February. A communique states : Although we are falling back in the Southern Carpathians and in Bukowina, the fighting is proceeding in our favour.
