Strip green leaves oft' cabbage, cut white heart into quarters, then cut across into slices. Slice onions, and place all into brine (21b salt to 1 gallon water). Let stand 24 hours, then strain, wash, and thoroughly drain. Pack loosely into dry bottles. Place contents of tin of "X" Powder in earthenware basin, add £lb sugar, mix with a little vinegar into smooth paste. Add remainder of £ gallon vinegar, and bring to boil in a saucepan. While hot pour 'iquor over vegetables, heat through till tender (not soft), bottlo, and when cold cork tightly. Store for 2 or 3 weeks before using.
