AUSTRALIA'S PRIME MINISTER

HIS MOVEMENTS IN THE SOUTH. (BY TBLBOIUFH— PKBSS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Though the Right Hon. A. Fisher's stay in Dunedin was limited to a day, he crowded as much into it as does the ordinary visitor in a week. At 9 a.m. the Commonwealth Prime Minister met representatives of the local Labour group, including the Hon. J. T. Paul and Mr. A. Walker, M.P., at the Grand Hotel. It was understood that this would be a short, informal talk, and would not interfere with the programme previously arranged ; but the interview j extended over an hour. It was conse- | quently after 10 o'clock when a start was made for the 1 motor run to the Taieri arranged by the Dunedin Expansion League. The Mosgiel Woollen Mills were visited, and, under the quid- j ance of Mr. John Roberts, C.M.G., a hurried inspection of the works made. The distinguished visitor and the accompanying party seemed greatly interested in the various processes, and the Hon. J. A. Boyd, of Victoria, incidentally observed that the factory compared more than favourably with those on the other side. It had been intended 'that the motor run should extend to Wairongoa, but this visit had regretfully to be abandoned in order that the party might reach the Town Hall by noon • for the civic reception. Then followed a luncheon at the V.M.C.A. rorfms, tendered by the Expansion League, and in the afternoon the xight hon. gentleman was the guest of the Harbour Board in their new tug, the trip being followed by a civic function at Port Chalmers. Australia's first Commoner and party leave for Christchurch to-morrow, and go on to Wellington, when they join the boat for Sydney, where they are due on 2nd February.
