LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN

m The dinner held by the Legion of Frontiersmen at Barrett's Hotel last evening proved very successful, being attended by some seventy members and a number of guests in mufti. Frontiersman F, J. Hooper presided. Sergeant Pearson gave an interesting account of the formation of the Legion. It .vas started, he said, some twelve years ago by Colonel Driscoll, of Driscoll's Scouts fame. Then it was only a small company, but now Legionaries were to be found in all British possessions. They were with the Canadian regiments, on the battle-grounds of Belgium, at the taking of Samoa, at Rubaul, uiid at Kiao-chau. The toast of "The King," proposed by the chairman, was honoured with ringing cheers. Another toast proposed was that of 'I Captain E. d'Esterre," arr old Frontiersman, and who, it was stated, had been foremost in assisting the movement on. The health was drunk with vociferous npplause. Other toasts honoured were " Captain Twistleton, Commandant of the North Island," coupled with the name of Sergeant Richmond; "The Ladies," proposed by Frontiersman Smith, and replied to by Frontiersman Magee ; "Captain Ernest Declair," proposed by Frontiersman Magee. "The Legion of Frontiersmen," coupled with ■the 'name of Lieutenant-Colonel Driscoll, was proposed by Frontiersman Richmond. "The Host and Hostess" (Mr, and Mrs. D. Dalton), was proposed by the chairman, and responded to -by Mr. Dalton. "The Chairman" was proposed by Sergeant Pearson. * It was resolved that Barrett s Hotel be the official meeting ho-ise for frontiersmen in Wellington. An enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of "God Save the King."
