FIGHTING ON SKATES
One wonders if history will repeat itself in the present war by a battle being fought on skates (says a. London journalist). Iv 1572 somo Dutch armed vessels were frozen up near Amsterdam, when Don Frederick sent a force over the ico to attack them. As the Spaniards advanced a band of skilful musketeers' mounted on skates met them. A battlo ensued, in which tho Dutch, owing chiefly td their powers as skaters, easuy vanquished the eiiomy, who fled loaving hundreds of men dead upon the ico. It 'is also recorded that a Dutch force ou skates onco repulsed a French force ou tha Scheldt. This was at tbo latter part of the seventeenth century, when France Wftfl at war with Holland.
