BOYS' LEAGUE TRIP TO CHRISTCHURCH.

As a means of encouraging cricket among the boys of this- city the Wellington Boys' League is unequalled, a fact which is fully borne out each seaeon by the appearance in "big" cricket of players who were fostered by the League. The present season promises to be equally if not more successful than past seasouß, and already there has been one event towards making the 6eason memorable. For the first time in tho history of the Boys' League, a representative team was sent away from Wellington. Unfortunately, several of fHose originally chosen were unable to make the trip, but those who did go to Christchurch put up a really commendable performance, giving a very favourable impression of the capabilities of Boy Leaguers. They were pitted against the Christchurch City and Suburban Association's third grade- representatives, at Sydenham Park on Boxing Day, and gained an easy victory by 86 runs, just missing an innings victory. V. fialley captained the Wellington boys, and winning ths toss elected \o bat. By good all-Tound hitting 162 runs were registered, those cniefly responsible tox* thie total being :— Halley 41, Bell 38, Heap 20, Bennett J4, Cunningham 14, and Leys 10 not out Going in, Christchurch were dismissed for 76 runs, the fast bowling of Chris-top herson and Halley completely surprising the locals. Christopherson took seven wickets for 21 runs. Christchurch were again called upon to bat, and at the call of timo had lont nine wickets for 67 runs. The Wellington boys all enjoyed- their stay in Christchurch, and returned home on Tuesday morning.
