INTERPROVINCIAL MATCH WELLINGTON v. MARLBOROUGH VISITORS' POOH DISPLAY. The interprovincial representative cricket match between Marlborough i and Wellington opened on the Basin Reserve yesterday afternoon before a small attendance of the public. The wicket was soft under the influence of the heavy rain overnight, but wore well and improved during the day. Following were the teams :—: — Wellington.— C. E. Hickey, S. Hickson, D. Norton', J. Rogers, F. Bowles, A. Cate, A. Birch, E. Phillips, M'lntosh, V Harris, and K. Tucker (captain). Marlborough.— lT. Robson, M. Neal, E. S. Hylton. H. Mogridge. W. D. Chisholm (captain), F. Robinson, 1 A. A. Wedde, C. Allcotl, G. Revell, A. H. Bay, and H. Lucas. Marlborough won the toss and elected to bat. Their innings opened disastrously. Kobson and Neal were both clean bowled by Rogers. Two wickets fell for 5 runs, and four for 6. Then Chisholm and Robinson, by cautious play, brought thescore up to 22, when Robinson was caughfc by Cate off Rogers. Chisholm fell a- minute later, being stumped by Cate. 24—6—10. Allcott and Bay made a creditable stand. Seventy went up, and then Allcott was clean bowled by Rogers for a, meritorious 35. Bay hung on and the total was raised to 102 when Rogers got his wicket. The Marlborough batting was disappointing, and Rogers, with eight for 13, did gr«*ai; execution. Wellington, after losing Hickson leybefore to Hylton. opened well, and Bowles freely disposed of the bowling, bringing up the 50 in half am hour. Phillips was clean bowled by Hylton for 6. Harris, after a couple of boundary strokes, was caught by Moyridge off Revell for a dozen, and then Bowles skied one to Bay off Revell. His score was 35. Naughton and Cate carried on thescore carefully until Naughton was bowled. When stumps were drawn the score was 111 for six wickets — Cate and Rogers still in.
