SWIMMING

OUTLOOK MORE PROMISING SEVERAL CLUBS MOVING. (By "Header.") To-day the outlook in the local swimming world is much more promising than it has been at any time this season. At last some live interest has been shown, and several clubs are movihg in the direction of doing more. They are all setting an example to the go-easy centre, which is content to do nothing. The executive officers of this body will surely have to explain their inaction at some future date, and delegates will bo wise to press for an explanation. It may be found that new blood is necessary. There in absolutely oo excuse for not calling together ,the remnant of last year'B centre, so that the unfortunate and extraordinary position which has arisen can be properly discussed. A requisition to call a meeting went for* ward last week. The latest club to awaken from iU prolonged winter slumber is the Old Boys. Nobody is ,to blame for the delay except the Kaiser, who is indirectly responsible for so many club members being at Samoa. Those left behind have been searching for the club's books, and their patient efforts were rewarded las'u week, when the minute book came to light. The whereaboute of the cash book has not yet been discovered, so no list of members is available The annual meeting last week was a success. Every effort is being made to hold the Thorndon Club together until the boys return from the islands. The club is going to make a special effort this year to encourage juniors and ladies, but particularly the former. Th* club has always had a big regard for .the boys, and they are to be catered for in every way possible. The first race for ladies will be held early in > the New Year. It is not generally known, but mixed bathing is allowed At Thorndon every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, and it is t proving very popular among a certain section. The Swifts Club is also moving in an encouraging direction and will be more fully dealt with at a later date.
