ST. PATRICK'S COLLEGE

CLOSING FOR THE HOLIDAYS The annual "breaking-up" ceremony in connection with St. Patrick's College took place last night in the study hall, which was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and filled by a. large gathering of parents and friends. With the exception of a few special medals, no prizes were given, the boys having willingly consented to the amount usually spent on prizes, both for school and sports, being given towards the Belgian E-elief Fund. In the course of a few opening relnavks, the Acting-Rector, Rev. Father O'Reilly. S.M., read a letter from the Rector (Very Rev Dr. Kennedy), who stated that at the outbreak of the war he was in Germany making a thorough investigation into the German education system, and arranging to procure perfect equipment for the college laboratory. It wae, however, only with the greatest difficulty, by the use of a motor-car and <a small boat, and after undergoing coii' siderable hardships, that he" escaped to England. The prizes were distributed \by his Grace Archbishop O'Shea, and during the evening the boys provided an interesting programme of recitals and music. . PRIZE LIST.
