GERMAN SUBMARINE SUNK

BY BRITISH DESTROYERS OFF THE SCOTTISH COAST I (Received October 16, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 15th October. The newspaper Scotsman states that a German submarine was seen off the east coast of Scotland recently, apparently relying on a supply ship. This ■was captured, apd the submarine then lay on the sea bed, in shallow water, for some time, rising occasionally for the renewal of its air supply. It thought it had detected an opportunity for attacking a patrol fleet. Three times it fired torpedoes, but on the third occasion the patrol vessels located the submarine's ■ periscope, and escaped without damage. The submarine then.dived. A cordon of destroyers waited until the submarine, which was practically fuelless, came to the surface, when she received a crashing gunfire and sank.
