PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS BALL

Last night a successful plain and fancy dress ball was held at St. Peter's Schoolroom, organised by Misses Gordon and Snow, assisted by a very able committee, in aid of the Housewives' Union Bazaar Fund. The hall was decorated for the occasion, the stage being fitted up as a drawing-room for the chaperones and judges. The supper table was tastefully decorated with flowers and trellis work. A number of original costumes were worn. A competition for the best fancy costume was won by Miss Wall (lady-in-waiting) ; Miss Olliver (Maori girl) was second, and Miss Holland (poster) third. Miss Olliver, jun., and Miss Audinwood wore most original costumes^ — 'viz., sea-shell and superstition. Miss Snow, as the Lady of Shallott, Miss Eagle, as Red Indian, and ,^iisa, M^ler as Quaker girl attracted much attention. Mrs. Hickey wore white silk with roses, Mis. Riske black silk, Miss Gastean red velvet, Mrs. Audinwood black silk and gold passementerie, and Mrs. Semple nayy 1 blue velvet. The waltzing competition was won by Miss Olliver, Miss Audinwood being second, and Mrs. Hickey third. Messrs. Payne, Robertson, and Webb, M.P.'s, were also present. Thanks are duo to Mrs. O'Neill, Miss Gastean, and Mr. Poetere, who officiated in tho task of judging the various competitions ; also to Mrs. Miller. Mra. Johnson, and Mrs. Thomas for their efforts over the supper arrangements.
