LOCAL AND GENERAL During the war, in addition to the jjrohibition of business dealings with persons for the benefit of an enemy, it appears to be necessary to warn the public against acting as intermediary in the correspondence of persons born in either of the enemy countries, whether such persons are naturalised British subjects or not. Anyone found to act in this manner will certainly find his complaisance recoiling on himself, for it will lead at least to his correspondence being censored, 'even if severer consequences do not follow. This, it is contended, can be done by reducing the time now spent at various small stations. The chamber is also asking the New Zealand Farmers' Union to join it in urging upon the Railway Department to give a trial to a new system of hiring a truck for the conveyance of consignments at a mileage rate.
