A REASSURING SIGN
♦ APPLICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT. A reassuring eign in regard to the labour market is that the applications for employment to the Labour Department for the week ended Monday last wore less than for any week since the war began The Department has sent another batch of sixteen men to the roadworks in the Pahiatua district, and intends to send about another dozen away next week. At present the Department is, on behalf of a private employer, advertising for men who are capable of doing trucking work. , Theso workers are required for the West Coast, and good wages will be given to suitable men. Competent fitters and turners have also been sent from Wellington and Auckland to fill several vacancies in Wanganui.
