JUVENILE ODDFELLOWSHIP
The report, to be presented to the Loyal Wellington Juvenile Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., will show that tho lodge was opened on 14th September, 1883, as an auxiliary branch of the Loyal Britannia Lodge, and hae, like its parent, had a very eucceesfu! financial career. It hna beon fortunate in having had secretaries who safeguarded its funds and looked well after it* investniente. On 21st September, 1894, a meeting was called to consider ita first actua rial report, and a substantial surplus was found io have accrued in tho ten years reviewed by the actuary, Bro. G. Leslie, P.P.G.M. The lute Bro. S. Waters presided at fchnt meeting, and th« following resolutions were passed: — "That the surplus and such eums as shall from time to time be ascertained to belong to.membore who are drafted from the Wellington Juvenile Lodge to the Britannia Lodge be paid over to the trustees of tho latter for tho purpose of providing deferred anmiitie* at the age of (jixty-Jive years, as detailed in P.P.G.M. Bro. Ijeslie's report, and it rthaJl be the privilege of thoeo interested in the?* hpecial funds at the completion of twenty yours from this date to again confeidei' ue to what earlier age than eixty-five the annuity shall commence to be paid." There wer« twenty-three members interested in the funds at the time of holding the above meeting; and of these there arc fourteen still surviving and belonging to the ordeK The. weekly contributions paid into tho juvotiilo lodge, and the benefits, are as follow!— Age at jolhihg, 10 to 12 years, 3d pev week ; 13 to 15 years, 4d ; 16 to 18 yearts, sd. The sick .betiefite, including free doctor and medicine, were : ID to 12 yeare of uge, 3s per week ; 13 to 18 yours of age, 5s per week; in each'cae* for the first twenty-six weeks, and half-pay for remainder of sickness. In addition to tliie, a funeral donation of £5 per member was guaranteed. The majority of the beneficiaries who j joined, only paid the lowest rate of coni tributions. The Britannia Lodge has now appointed a committee to confer with and advise those present at tho coming meeting, when it is confidently expected t that further actuarial investigations will show that annuities can commence tit a vory much earlier age than sixty-five.
