A corporal writes: "I can sleep during any row you like. *bu should see our chaps dozing in th© trenches whilst shells are bursting everywhere. If roused by an explosion they only say 'It is one of them cheap German alarm clocks,' and then go to sleep again. KING OF THE BELGIANS WONDERFUL ASCENDENCY IN MINDS OF THE PEOPLE. (TIMES AND SYDNBT SUN SERVICES.) (Received October 6, 8 a.m.) LONDON, 4th October. The Times's Antwerp correspondent states that since the war started King Albert has established a wonderful ascendency in the minds of the Belgian people. In the testimony of the highest military authorities he has shown himself a soldier of first rate ability. A BAIT FOR AVIATORS TO DROP BOMBS IN LONDON. (Roceived October 6, 8.30 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, sth October. A message from Berlin states that the Kaiser has promised to decorate the first German aviator dropping explosives in London.
