FAREWELL CEREMONY

• EXPEDITIONARY FORCE DISPLAY AT NEWTOWN PARK. The opportunity will be taken to-mor-row afternoon to tender a public farewell at Ne-wtown Park to the Wellington section of the Main Expeditionary Force, which, with the Field. Artillery Brigade, headquarters and other national units, comprises some 2700 officers and other ranks. The men, split into various detachments, will march up to Newtown Park by various routes, and upon arrival will be formed into a hollow square upon the green sward. The following bands will be in attendance, and will play selections while the troops are taking up their positions ready for the Governor's arrival: — sth (Wellington) Regiment Band, the Expeditionary Force's own band, the Tramways Band, Salvation Army Band, Mission Band, Mission Boys' Band, Pipe Band, the Natives' Association Band (Lieut. Herd), and Jupp's Band. The bands will parade together at the Park at a quarter to two. His Excellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool) will arrive at 2.30 p.m., when the whole of the asembled U'oop3 will come to the Royal salute. The troops will be immediately inspected by His Excellency, who will then say "Good-bye" to them, and various other spe'ecnes will be delivered by members of the Ministry and others. The whole assemblage will then sing the wellknown hymn "0 God, our Help in Ages Past," the public being invited to join in. The R-ev. J. G. Chapman will follow with the reading of a lesson from the Bible, after which a prayer will be offered up by the Rev. W. Shirer, concluding with the Lord's Prayer. The' Benediction will then be pronounced by the Bishop of Wellington, and will be followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The troops will then march past His Excellency in column of route and through the city. Tbe> various bands will be distributed at intervals through the column. The route along which the troops will march will be as follows : Riddifordstreet and Adelaide-road, round the Basin Reserve, along Cambridge-terrace, Vivian-street,' Cuba-street, Manners street, Willis-street, and Lambton-quay to Bunny-street. The public are asked specially to keep away from the corners of narrow streets, such as off Manners- | street, in order to facilitate the passage of the column. For the purpose of regulating the traffic special parades have been called of the Territorials and Senior Cadets. One officer a.nd SO other ranks will be on duty at Newtown Park, and 2 officers and 100 Cadets from St. Patrick's College at the corner of Manners-street and Willis-street, and at the Bank of New Zealand comer, Lambton-quay. These I detachments must be in their positions by 3.30 p.m. Four officers and 400 other ranks of the Territorial Forces, together with the Wellington College and Y.M.CA. Cadets, will be on duty'\ at various points throughout the day. i STATE SCHOOLS TO CLOSE AT NOON. In order to enable the teachers and children to attend the farewell to the Expeditionary Force at Newtown Park, the Education Board has issued instructions that all schools in the city and I j as far as Plimmerton and the Upper ! Hutt (inclusive) are to close at noon to-morrow. THE TRAMWAY SERVICE. During the time the troops are traversing "Vivian, Cuba, Manners, and Willisj streets, and Lambton-quay the trams will be despatched along Customhouse and Jervoia-quays and Courtenay-place. The Brooklyn cars will be turned back at Manners-street. This will allow the troops to pass along the streets in question without interruption, and will at the same time provide for the maintenance of the tramway service. BOY SCOUTS The Boy Scouts are to parade for the farewell ceremony to-morrow, their services having been accepted by the Defence Department. Scoutmasters are to have their troops at the main gates, Newtown Park, at 1.45 p.m., when they will be detailed for such service as ma-y be lound necessary.
