PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. Mr. V. E. Meredith presided over the fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, held last evening. Captain Henry (the inspector) reported having dealt with a, number of cases of cruelty to animals. Mrs. Christie and Messrs. V. R. , Meredith, Watson, aW Jameson were appointed a sub-committee to determine the best means of carrying out Mr. R. H. Webb's suggestion that the district (city and suburbs) should be divided into areas for the purpose of carrying on i the collection of subscriptions' more systematically. Subscriptions were received and ac- , knowledjjed as follow : — Mrs. V. Riddiford, £2; A Friend, £1 Is; Dr. R. A. i Cameron and Mrs. Wise, 5s each ; Mrs. Forrest, Mr. Seaton, Friend, and A.M., 2s 6d each ; Friend, Is ; total, £4 2s.
