Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., feturned from Auckland yesterday. The Public Trustee (Dr. Fitchett) left for Auckland yesterday. Mr. Justice Cooper aaid Mr. Justice Dennist'ott will take the criminal session at Gisbome and Napier next week. The passengers for Lyttelton, by the Wahine last night included Ml*. G. B. Bullock, manager in Wellington for the New Zealand Shipping Company. Hawkes Bay papers announce the death of Mr. Mark Rolls, of Port Ahu« riri, aged 71, and Mr. C. Brown, of Napier, aged 85. Both served in the Maori war. Mr. F. Leyland, of the firm of Leyland and O'Brien, timber mercTiants a-nd sawmillers, Auckland, was a passenger by the Moana, which arrived in Wellington from San Francisco last night. The Moyar of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke) is confined to bed with an attack of influenza. He hopes to be able to attend again at his office in the Town Hall on Monday. Among the passengers from South by the Maori this morning was the llev. J. J. North, of Christchurch, who is to occupy his old pulpit at the Vivian-street Baptist Church to-morrow. The newly-created position of Stores Manager to the Public Works Department is to be filled by Mr. R. E._ Herroti, mana.ger of Messrs. C. A. Odlin and Co.'s hardware department in Wellington for the past eeven years. The death occurred this morning oE Mrs. Monaghan, widow of the late Mr. James Monaghan. The deceased had been in feeble health for some months. She arrived in Wellington about forty years ago, and had lived in Brooklyn for the past twenty years. She has left two sons and four daughters. At a meeting of Uie council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, held last evening, the Chairman (Mr. A. A. Marryatt) referred to the untimely death at New Plymouth recently, of Mr. J. H. HempUm, for many years a prominent figure in amateur athletic circles. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to the relatives ot'the deceased gentleman.
