SPORT PROGRAMMES ADHERED TO.
There will be little difficulty in inducing people here to act in accordance with the wish of the King, that sports, as well as other features of, the life of our communities should continue in a normal fashion as much as can be reasonably done. To suspend sports and games generally would probably have an undesirably depressing effect in Australia, where sporting matters constitute so large a place in tho ordinary course of things. Moreover, the announcements already made show that sporting gatherings will be made to serve extensively for the augmentation of patriotic and relief funds. Thus the Victoria Racing Club has approached the State Government with a request for permission to levy increased charges for admission in connection with its approaching big race meeting to the end that it may hand over a sum, estimated at £4000, to the Patriotic Fund. Taken all round, the usual programmes of racing and athletic events are being adhered to, ,with in almost every case the announcement that profits will be allotted to funds which represent the special needs of the present crisis.
