FEDERAL ELECTIONS NEW MINISTRY TO BE SELECTED ON FRIDAY. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copjrislit.) SYDNEY, Bth September. On the present Senate returns, two if not three Liberals are still in the running 'in New South Wales, one in South Australia and one in Tasmania. Elsewhere Labour is in the ascendancy, but the figures are capable of wide alterations. For the House, the Liberals now seem secure of retaining the Wakefield and Ldlley seats. The Prim« Minister, Mr. Cook, and his colleagues have returned to Melbourne, and are clearing up their offices. Mr. Fisher, the Labour leader, has summoned a meeting of the party for Friday to select the new Ministry. Mr. Fisher, prior to leaving Brisbane, said that the first duty would bo to deal with the eriemies of the country. He estimated the warlike expenditure at six or seven millions, and there would be more_ to follow,- but he was not apprehensive of the position. They would then have to provide employment for their own people on employment works of public utility. He intended to rebubmit the referenda proposals as soon as possible. At the Meat Commission, Mr. Cherry, Veterinary Inspector to the High Commissioner's Office in England, gave evidence that American companies handled the majority of the supply of frozen and chilled meat, and the prices Ehey obtained ruled the market. Two American companies last year ejqjorted to London more than Australia and New Zealand combined.
