TONGA'S SERIOUS POSITION
— — «»■ ■ FOOD SUPPLIES TO BE SENT. (BT TBLEQRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, 7th September. Probably the most perplexed people in the Southern Hemisphere to-day are the residents of Tonga. Though only 1100 miles from Auckland^ it is probable that they are still wondering why they have for weeks past been cut off from all communication with the outside world. Last Thursday the barquentine Ysabel arrived from Nukualofa, and brought news that the European population was faced with famine. It appears likely that the first news of the war, as well as relief supplies, will be taken to the group by the Ysabel, which loads up with foodstuffs and returns immediately.
